Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA)
Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) was established as the sole standardization body in the United Arab Emirates under the Law No. 28/2001. The board of directors chaired by H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, the Minister of State in the UAE is comprising representatives of the main parties involved in the standardization of the UAE. The board is the dominant affairs and lay down its policy and adopting all the suitable procedures to ensure efficient performance to its assignments.
Bahrain Standards & Metrology Directorate (BSMD)
Bahrain Standards and Metrology Directorate (BSMD) is the national standardization body of Bahrain established in 1988 under the provision of the Legislative Decree No. 16 of 1985. It is a member of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), the Arab Center for Standardization and Metrology and a founder member of the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO).
Saudi Standards,Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO)
Saudi Standards,Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) was established pursuant to Royal Decree No. M/10 dated 1992-03-03H (17/4/1972 G), as a body of judicial personality and with an independent budget. A Board of Directors, headed by the Minister of Commerce and Industry and comprising representatives of the concerned Ministries in addition to representatives from private sectors concerned with standardization in the Kingdom, outlines the general policy of SASO.
Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (DGSM)
Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (DGSM) within the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is the National Standards Body in Oman. It was established by Royal Decree No. 39/76 issued on 20 October 1976, and its duties and functions were defined by Royal Decree No. 1/78 issued on 3 January 1978.DGSM supervises the work of the National Enquiry Point and Information Centre (NEPIC) which is under the authority of the Undersecretary for Commerce and Industry.
Qatar General Organization for Standardization (QS)
Laboratories and Standardization Affairs (QS) is the national standards body in Qatar. It was established in 2002 and is currently affiliated to the Ministry of Environment. QS elaborate and publish Qatari product and service standards (voluntary) and technical regulations (mandatory) with participation of relevant stakeholders (industry, academia, control authorities, etc.). QS ensure high quality and safety of products, commodities and materials following new trends and developments.
Standards and Industrial Services Affairs – KOWSMD
Standards and Industrial Services Affairs – KOWSMD in Kuwait began in 1967, within a unit of the Ministry of commerce & Industry which became a Department after the law no. 128 for standardization was issued in 1977. The Department was transferred to the Public Authority for Industry in 1996 and became a sector for Standards and Industrial services including two Departments, one for standards & Metrology and the other for quality laboratories.
Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMO)
Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMO) is considered to be the only national authority specialized in standards and specifications. Its objectives are to prepare standards for the fields of production, construction services, hall marking as well as the distribution, importing and exporting of goods. YSMO establish a national system for standardization and metrology based on modern scientific principles.
